Microneedling and the difference between professional use and home use

Dr. Pen UK™ is the number 1 at home microneedling device worldwide.

Many professionals such as aestheticians, dermatologists, cosmetologists and beauty therapists choose to use Dr. Pen to offer treatments to their clients. The main difference between a trained professional performing the procedure versus doing it yourself is that the professional version will use the device on a higher depth gauge which go much deeper into the skin to treat acne scars, wrinkles, and other skin damage. Its really advisable if you are microneedling at home to start with the 0.25 and only go up to 1.00. If your unsure consult with your doctor or dermatologist they will be able to provide their expert knowledge.

How Microneedling Works?

Directions for use

The Dr Pen Auto Microneedle System is a revolutionary micro-needling skincare device which aims to tighten, lift and rejuvenate your skin.

All Dr Pen devices are to be used with single use sterile cartridges. Never use a cartridge more that once.

Skin Preparation – Cleanse your skin with a mild cleanser to remove all traces of makeup dirt and skincare products .Then repeat a double cleanse will remove any further dirt, oils or stray hairs on the skin can increase the chance of infection or irritation. Also ensure that hair is tied back, away from your face. Many people choose to now apply a numbing cream. If your skin is sensitive, you can purchase numbing cream from over the counter at most pharmacy’s. If you use a numbing cream ensure that you remove it after the specified time and double cleanse again. Now use a hydrating serum such as Hyaluronic Acid before microneedling to lubricate the skin, helping the needles to glide and prevent any dragging on the skin.

Microneedling Procedure – Use a new cartridge from sterile packaging. Turn the dial to select your preferred depth. Start microneedling on the lowest speed setting and build from there. Work in small areas and apply serum to each area before needling. Use light pressure, the recommended pattern to move the pen for best results is vertical, horizontal, and then diagonal in both directions. You can repeat this twice on each area of skin.

Aftercare – You will experience mild redness and sometimes swelling after needling. This is normal and nothing to be concerned about. Wash with a mild cleanser and avoid applying any makeup for at least 24 hours. Products that contain fragrances or active ingredients (vitamin C, A/Retinols), acids (lactic acid, AHA, BHA), scrubs or toners should not be used for 72 hours after because this may cause irritation. Its advisable to apply an SPF and avoid spending long periods of time in the sun. Your skincare routine after treatment should focus on hydrating and moisturising products.
