Microneedling with the brand new Dr. Pen A11

The cartridge that you select for your Dr. Pen microneedling pen will depend on the results that you wish to achieve. Check out the pin selections below to find which cartridge may be suitable for you.

9,12,16,18 & 24 Pin

These Dr. Pen cartridges are ideal to improve:

  • acne scars
  • wrinkles
  • fine lines
  • melasma
  • rosacea
  • hyperpigmentation
  • boost scalp health (specifically 24 pin)
  • collagen induction

Some people may opt to use a numbing cream on prepped and cleansed skin. Ultimately this depends on the depth selected for treatment, speed selected and experience of the user – if they are using the device for a professional treatment or as an at home treatment If your microneedling at home and starting to treat a specific area we always recommend starting on the lowest depth 0.25. This will give you time to build your confidence, get to know your device and how your skin responds to microneedling.

36 & 42 Pin

These cartridges are ideal to improve:

  • skins hydration levels
  • visibility of stretch marks
  • reduction of skin pigmentation
  • larger scars
  • visibility of large pores
  • regeneration of the hair follicles
  • collagen induction

These higher pin cartridges are good for treating larger areas. As with the lower pin cartridges some people will opt to use a numbing cream on prepped and cleansed skin.

Nano, Including 3D, 5D, type S & type R

These cartridges stay in the epidermis. Sometimes nano needling is also referred to as nano infusion. They also come in round and square shapes dependant on the type of device you use. Nano cartridges are great for;

  • BB Glow treatments
  • Improvement of skin tone
  • combat fine lines
  • encourage brow re growth
  • Nano Needling also helps products penetrate the skin more easily.

Nano cartridges can be used more regularly which makes them ideal for use at home and will not require any numbing cream. They are also perfect if your a microneedling newbie.

Additional things to consider when selecting a Dr. Pen cartridge

  • Different areas of the face vary in texture; for example, the fattier areas of the cheeks can handle a more robust needle depth. Delicate areas of the face, such as around the eyes, don’t require much depth to see great results.
  • Some pens offer cartridges that are super thin at 0.18, these can make microneedling more comfortable. You can get these thinner cartridges for the dr pen A8S, M8, M8s, A6s, A9 and A11 (standard cartridges are 0.25)
  • The needles can penetrate the dermis at a relatively low speed setting and achieve the wound healing response that is needed to create collagen.
  • After microneedling, redness is typical – this may last for several days. For this reason, you’ll want to ensure there is plenty of time between microneedling(at least 3 weeks) and any important events you may have scheduled.
  • Microneedling cartridges are designed for single use only and should be disposed of after each use. Ensure that you’re opening a new cartridge every time you perform microneedling.
